Hindustan Zinc helps a mother weave dreams into her children's lives
Life came to a standstill for Shahnaaz Hussain when her husband passed away suddenly, leaving her to fend for herself and her two small children. Thus began her 15 year struggle to keep her family afloat.
I was completely shattered by the untimely death of my husband. I had two small children to take care of and had no understanding of what I could do to help them.
When I came across Hindustan Zinc Limited's (HZL) Self Help Group 'Jaihind' in Udaisagar Chauraha, I promptly signed up. They trained me in tailoring and embroidery and helped me earn a steady income. I began manufacturing readymade garments along with other SHG members, which we sold for a good price in the market. When SHG joined hands with Fab India* it helped me further raise my monthly income to INR 4,000 - 5,000.
Today Shahnaaz is happy to be able to comfortably provide for her children and ensure a good education for them. She is also actively involved in helping fellow women in need by training them in tailoring and embroidery. Shahnaaz is confident and hopeful that her contribution will help other needy women live their lives with pride and dignity, the way she does today.
