development framework and has in place a comprehensive community relations programmes that
positively touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of people every day.
Scott Wilson, on behalf of certain financial institutions, conducted an independent and
comprehensive review of our sustainable development policies and procedures in line with
international standards and best practices in November 2010.
The review covered our Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Social Policies and our Business
Code of Conduct. It made recommendations towards further aligning our policies and practices to
the IFC Performance Standards and IFC EHS Guidelines for mining & thermal power. A summary of

In line with our commitment to sustainable development and the implementation of the Scott
Wilson recommendations, in June, we made a six monthly progress report. The report details the
actions we had taken up to 30th June 2011
The Scott Wilson team undertook a six-monthly progress review in July 2011 and visited our sites at
VAL Lanjigarh, HZL Chanderiya and met with our Vedanta Sustainable Development staff in Udaipur.
They report that we are making satisfactory progress in implementing our sustainability framework
and strategy and recorded six of their recommendations as closed or substantially complete. They
also made some suggestions on areas of improvement that we will follow.
