Our Zinc operations comprise Hindustan Zinc Limited in India and the assets of Zinc International across Namibia, South Africa and Ireland.
Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) owns and operates a fully integrated zinc-lead business. HZL is one of the world's largest integrated zinc-lead producer by volume. Vedanta Limited (formerly known as Sesa Sterlite Ltd/Sesa Goa Ltd), an India listed susidiary of Vedanta Resources Plc, owns 64.9% of the share capital of HZL, while the Government of India remains an equity partner and holds a 29.5% stake. HZL is listed on Indian stock exchanges (NSE and BSE).
HZL has four existing zinc lead mines at Rampur Agucha, Rajpur Dariba, Sindesar Khurd and Zawar. There are four hyrdometallurgical zinc smelters in Northwest India, two of which are at Chanderiya and one each at Dariba & Debari with three smelting locations. There is one Pyrometallurgical lead-zinc smelter at Chanderiya and two Lead smelters- Ausmelt at Chanderiya and Dariba Lead smelter. In FY 2014, these operations delivered 880,000 tonnes of mined zinc-lead metal-in-concentrate, and 879,000 tonnes of refined zinc and lead.
The Zinc International business, which includes the Skorpion Zinc (Namibia), Black Mountain Mines (South Africa) and Lisheen mines (Ireland) delivered a total production of 364,000 tonnes of refined zinc and mined zinc-lead metal-in-concentrate.
